Las Vegas, NV - Teen Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Struck Near Cactus and Jones

Las Vegas, NV (August 17, 2026) – A teenager was struck by a car near Cactus Avenue and Jones Boulevard.

The incident was reported at 3:09 p.m. on August 17. The teen was taken to University Medical Center (UMC), according to FOX5.

Las Vegas police are investigating. No additional details have been released.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Whatever the police investigation finds, the medical bills from a pedestrian crash start immediately.

Pedestrian Accidents in Las Vegas, Nevada

A pedestrian struck outside a marked crosswalk is not automatically at fault under Nevada law. Insurance adjusters raise jaywalking as a reason to deny or reduce a claim more often than Nevada law actually supports that outcome.

Three steps protect a claim after a pedestrian is hit by a car:

  • Request the police report once a case number is assigned. It documents the point of impact, the driver’s statement, and any citations issued.
  • Photograph the crosswalk markings, signal timing, and sightlines at the intersection before the scene changes.
  • Get a full medical evaluation at the hospital and at every follow-up visit, since documented treatment ties injuries directly to the crash.

Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence rule (NRS 41.141), meaning a pedestrian can still recover damages provided they are found less than 51 percent at fault, regardless of whether the crossing was inside a marked crosswalk.

Because the person hurt is a minor, the filing deadline works differently than in a typical car accident claim. Under NRS 11.250, the two-year deadline does not start running until the teen turns 18, giving until the 20th birthday to file a personal injury claim.

An insurance adjuster’s first question after a pedestrian crash is often whether the person crossed legally, and that question gets asked before anyone reviews whether Nevada law even allows it to reduce the claim.

At Ace Law Group, our pedestrian accident attorneys in Las Vegas push back on that tactic directly, using the police report, intersection photos, and medical records to build the claim before an adjuster’s first offer arrives. Founder Patrick W. Kang and Hon. Christopher K. Lee (Ret.), a former Nevada judge on the trial team, have used that approach to recover more than $175 million for injured clients statewide, including a $7.1 million award in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian case involving a traumatic brain injury.

Because the teen is a minor, a parent or guardian can retain an attorney and start that work today, well before the two-year filing clock even begins to run.

Pedestrian accident cases are handled on contingency: no fee unless we recover money for the family.
