Jean, NV (Aug. 11, 2026) – A vehicle struck and critically injured a pedestrian on northbound I-15 heading toward Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash happened around 12:11 p.m. at mile marker 12 in the area of Jean, according to Trooper Shawn Haggstrom with Nevada State Police Highway Patrol.
A medical helicopter transported the pedestrian, identified as an adult woman, to a hospital with critical injuries.
Law enforcement closed the northbound side of I-15 for the response and investigation, Haggstrom said. Traffic was diverted off at State Route 161 during the closure, creating several miles of backup on the interstate. All lanes had reopened by about 2:05 p.m.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
A crash this serious, on a stretch of highway most people only pass through, leaves a family waiting by a hospital phone for news no one can rush.
Pedestrian Accidents in Nevada
Fault has not been determined yet, and Nevada law does not require it to be clear before a family can act. Nevada follows a modified comparative fault standard (NRS 41.141), meaning the injured woman can still recover compensation as long as she was less than 51% at fault.
Establish liability against the driver: investigators examine speed, attention, and reaction time in the moments before impact
Preserve evidence from the freeway closure: traffic camera footage, 911 calls, and trooper photographs from the scene
Document the medical response: helicopter transport and hospital records establish the severity of the injury early
Personal injury claims in Nevada must generally be filed within two years of the date of the crash (NRS 11.190). For this crash, that deadline falls on August 11, 2028.
