Las Vegas, NV (Aug 8, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by an SUV on northbound I-11, according to the Nevada State Police. The crash happened just south of the Martin Luther King Boulevard northbound off-ramp, a little before 11 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray 2024 Toyota BZ4X SUV was traveling northbound when the pedestrian entered the travel lane directly in front of the vehicle. The driver overcorrected to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful.
The SUV struck the pedestrian, then crossed into another lane before coming to a stop on the outside shoulder. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators, police said.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the pedestrian. The crash remains under investigation by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team.
According to NHP, this crash marks the 40th fatal crash investigated by the Highway Patrol’s Southern Command in 2026, bringing the region’s traffic death toll to 43 fatalities so far this year.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Losing someone this way, on a road they crossed without warning, leaves a family with more questions than answers, and an investigation that has only just begun.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Las Vegas, NV
A pedestrian crossing outside a marked crosswalk does not automatically determine fault. Nevada follows a modified comparative fault standard (NRS 41.141), meaning a family can still recover compensation as long as their loved one was less than 51% at fault.
- Who may share liability: the driver, based on speed, reaction time, and how the vehicle’s crash data recorder logs the moments before impact
- What investigators examine: vehicle speed and braking data, roadway lighting near the off-ramp, sightlines, and witness statements
- What the family must establish: that the driver’s conduct fell below the standard of care a reasonable driver owes to pedestrians on a Nevada highway
Wrongful death claims in Nevada must generally be filed within two years of the date of death (NRS 41.085). For this crash, that deadline falls on August 11, 2028.
