Las Vegas, NV (Aug 1, 2026) – Nevada State Police responded to a report of a crash on northbound I-11 near the MLK Boulevard on-ramp around 10:55 p.m., according to the agency. Police said the crash involved an SUV and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The crash closed I-11, and troopers diverted northbound traffic onto the I-11/Casino Center on-ramp toward I-15 northbound.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
A death this sudden leaves a family searching for answers they don’t have yet, right when they need them most.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Las Vegas, Nevada
Fatal pedestrian crashes on Las Vegas highways often turn on right-of-way and speed questions that only an investigation can answer.
- Liability may rest with the driver, the Nevada Department of Transportation if signage or lighting played a role, or another party once the investigation concludes
- Investigators typically examine highway camera footage, the SUV’s event data recorder, and physical evidence such as skid marks and debris at the scene
- Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence standard (NRS 41.141), meaning a pedestrian who was less than 51% at fault does not cost the family its right to recover
- A wrongful death claim can pursue funeral and burial costs, lost financial support, and the loss of the victim’s companionship and guidance
The family has until Aug. 1, 2028 to file a wrongful death claim under Nevada law, two years from the date of death (NRS 41.085).
A civil claim through a Las Vegas wrongful death attorney moves on its own timeline and does not wait on any citation or charge against the driver.
Waiting to act risks losing highway camera footage and matching physical evidence before an attorney can preserve it.
