North Las Vegas, NV - 8-Year-Old Critically Injured in Pedestrian Crash on Las Vegas Boulevard

North Las Vegas, NV (June 28, 2026) – A 2011 Hyundai Elantra struck an 8-year-old child on Las Vegas Boulevard Sunday night, leaving the juvenile with critical injuries, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported.

The collision occurred at approximately 9:33 p.m. on June 28, west of the intersection with North Lamb Boulevard. Police say the child was crossing outside of a marked or implied crosswalk when the Elantra, traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard, entered the juvenile’s path. The front of the vehicle struck the child, propelling the juvenile onto the roadway.

Emergency Medical Services transported the child to University Medical Center, where injuries were determined to be critical. The Hyundai driver remained at the scene and did not display any signs of impairment, according to police.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Collision Investigation Section continues to investigate the crash.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A child hurt in a nighttime crash leaves a family with questions no one prepares for and decisions that need to be made quickly, often while still in shock.

Pedestrian Accident Claims in Las Vegas, Nevada

A child crossing outside a marked or implied crosswalk does not automatically determine fault under Nevada law. Nevada follows a modified comparative fault standard under NRS 41.141, meaning a family may still recover compensation as long as the injured party was less than 51 percent at fault. In a nighttime pedestrian crash, investigators and attorneys examine factors including vehicle speed, road lighting conditions, driver visibility, and driver reaction time.

Nevada courts evaluate a child’s conduct differently from that of an adult. An 8-year-old is held to the standard of a reasonable child of similar age and experience, not the standard of a reasonable adult. That distinction matters when fault is being allocated after a crash.

After a crash involving a child, families should take the following steps as soon as possible:

  • Continue all medical care at University Medical Center or with a specialist. Critical injuries in children often require follow-up beyond the initial emergency visit. Keep records of every appointment, treatment, and diagnosis.
  • Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company. Anything said before you speak with an attorney can be used to reduce or deny your family’s claim.
  • Act quickly to preserve evidence from the scene. Intersection camera footage near North Lamb Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard is typically overwritten within days. Witness contact information and any nearby dashcam recordings also need to be secured promptly. An attorney can issue formal preservation requests right away.
  • Do not accept any settlement offer before consulting an attorney. Early offers from insurance companies rarely account for a child’s long-term medical needs or future costs.

Under Nevada law, personal injury claims must generally be filed within two years of the date of the crash (NRS 11.190). This crash occurred on June 28, 2026, placing the general deadline at June 28, 2028. Claims involving injured minors may be subject to different tolling rules under Nevada law. An attorney can confirm the specific deadline that applies to your family’s situation.
