Las Vegas, NV (May 28, 2026) – A pedestrian is dead after a crash Thursday night at South Decatur Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Police say a 2013 Toyota RAV4 was traveling southbound on Decatur Boulevard in the left travel lane when a 35-year-old man crossed the boulevard from west to east outside of a marked or implied crosswalk.
The front of the Toyota struck the pedestrian as he crossed the vehicle’s path of travel. The man was projected forward onto the roadway and run over by the Toyota, according to police.
Medical personnel performed life-saving measures at the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
What to Do After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Las Vegas
Losing someone in a pedestrian crash is devastating, and in the days that follow, the decisions a family makes can directly affect their ability to pursue justice and compensation.
One critical fact Nevada families need to know: a pedestrian crossing outside a marked crosswalk does not automatically determine fault. Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence standard under NRS 41.141 – meaning a family may still recover compensation as long as their loved one was less than 51% at fault. Driver speed, distraction, impairment, and road conditions all factor into the liability analysis. These 4 steps protect the family’s legal rights now:
- Contact a pedestrian accident attorney before speaking to any insurance company. The driver’s insurer will begin its investigation immediately. A family without legal representation is at a serious disadvantage from day one.
- Do not accept any statement of fault or settlement offer. Early contact from an insurer is not compassion; it is claims management. No offer should be evaluated without an attorney.
- Preserve all available evidence. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses, dashcam video, witness statements, and physical evidence from the scene have a short window before they are lost or overwritten.
- Request an independent investigation. LVMPD’s investigation serves the public record; it does not serve the family’s civil claim. An attorney can retain independent accident reconstruction experts to establish the full picture of fault.
Nevada’s statute of limitations for wrongful death claims is 2 years from the date of the crash. For a crash occurring on May 29, 2026, the filing deadline is May 29, 2028. Families who wait lose options.
