Las Vegas, NV (May 22, 2025) – A 20-year-old motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries on Thursday after a multi-vehicle crash near Cambridge Street and Desert Inn Road in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Police say the crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. The motorcyclist was riding a Kawasaki eastbound on Desert Inn Road when the driver of a Hyundai Elantra, traveling westbound, attempted to complete a left turn on a flashing yellow arrow signal. According to police, the Elantra’s driver failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcyclist.
The impact knocked the rider to the ground. He then struck the front of a Chevrolet Equinox that was stopped at a red light.
The rider was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police say.
The crash remains under investigation by the LMPD.
Motorcycle Accidents in Las Vegas, Nevada
A driver turning left across oncoming traffic is one of the most common causes of serious motorcycle crashes in Nevada, and one of the clearest examples of a preventable failure to yield. When a left-turning driver ignores the right of way, the motorcyclist absorbs the full force of an impact they had no way to avoid.
Nevada law gives motorcyclists riding in a travel lane the same right of way as any other vehicle. The flashing yellow arrow signals that a driver may turn left when the way is clear; it does not eliminate the obligation to yield to oncoming traffic under NRS 484B.257.
Here is what the rider and his family should do now:
- Seek and document all medical treatment. Every diagnosis, procedure, and medical record from Sunrise Hospital forward builds the foundation of the claim. Do not delay follow-up care.
- Do not speak to the other driver’s insurance company. An adjuster may call quickly. Anything said, even a routine description of what happened, can be used to reduce the settlement. Direct all contact to an attorney.
- Preserve all evidence. This includes the motorcycle, any clothing worn during the crash, photographs of the scene, and witness contact information while memories are fresh.
- Do not accept a settlement offer without legal review. Early offers from insurance companies rarely reflect the full value of life-threatening injuries, future medical costs, or lost earning capacity.
Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence standard under NRS 41.141. A motorcyclist can still recover compensation as long as he is found to be less than 51% at fault. In a clear failure-to-yield crash, fault typically falls on the turning driver, but insurers will attempt to shift blame. An attorney who handles motorcycle cases in Las Vegas knows how to counter that tactic.
The statute of limitations for personal injury claims in Nevada is 2 years from the date of the crash. That deadline is firm. Waiting shortens the window for gathering evidence, securing witness statements, and building the strongest possible case.
