Las Vegas, NV – Motorcyclist Killed in Crash, SUV Driver Arrested on DUI-Related Charges

A motorcyclist died in a crash with an SUV at East Serene Avenue and Spencer Street in Las Vegas on July 19, 2026, according to police.

Las Vegas, NV (July 19, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed early Sunday morning in a crash at the intersection of East Serene Avenue and Spencer Street, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 1:47 a.m. when the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Spencer Street and entered the intersection from the left of two northbound lanes. Investigators said a Volkswagen SUV turned left from eastbound Serene Avenue onto Spencer Street against a red left-turn arrow, crossing into the motorcycle’s path.

The motorcycle struck the left side of the Volkswagen, causing major damage to both vehicles, police said. The motorcyclist suffered deadly injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV driver suffered minor injuries. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested on DUI-related charges.

The motorcyclist’s death marks the 64th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2026. The crash remains under investigation by LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section. The motorcyclist’s identity is expected to be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A driver who runs a red left-turn arrow can end a rider’s life before sunrise, and the family left behind is suddenly facing questions no one prepares for.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Las Vegas, NV

A left-turning driver who crosses against a red arrow gives an oncoming motorcyclist almost no time to react. When the driver is also impaired, the crash usually produces two separate cases: a criminal charge and a civil claim for the rider’s family.

  • Liability generally falls on the driver who failed to yield or ran the red arrow, though investigators will also review the motorcyclist’s speed, lane position, and visibility at the time of the crash
  • Evidence worth preserving quickly includes traffic camera footage near the intersection, the SUV’s black box data, the responding officer’s DUI investigation report, and statements from any witnesses at the scene
  • Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence standard (NRS 41.141), so a family can still recover compensation as long as the motorcyclist was found less than 51% at fault
  • A Las Vegas drunk driving accident attorney can pursue the civil claim independently of the criminal case, since a DUI arrest does not automatically resolve the family’s right to compensation

Under Nevada law, a Las Vegas wrongful death claim must generally be filed within two years of the date of death, which would be July 19, 2028 in this case (NRS 41.085).
