Northeast Las Vegas, NV (May 18, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while crossing East Lake Mead Boulevard near the intersection of Marion Drive in northeast Las Vegas on Monday evening and was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Evidence at the collision scene, video surveillance, and a witness statement indicated the teen was crossing East Lake Mead Boulevard near the Marion Drive intersection when he entered the path of a westbound 2011 GMC Terrain. The front of the GMC struck the pedestrian on his left side and projected him west onto the roadway, according to LVMPD.
The driver of the GMC immediately brought the vehicle to a controlled stop west of the intersection and remained at the scene. The driver showed no signs of impairment, according to LVMPD.
Emergency medical personnel transported the teen to University Medical Center Trauma, where he remains with critical injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
When a child is critically hurt in a pedestrian crash, everything happens fast – the medical decisions, the insurance calls, the questions with no clear answers. Families in that position need to know their legal options before the window to act closes.
Pedestrian Accidents in Las Vegas, Nevada
Pedestrian crashes near busy intersections in Las Vegas can involve multiple layers of liability. The cause of this crash is still under investigation – but here is what families in this situation need to know right now:
- Nevada law may still protect the family even if fault is disputed. Under NRS 41.141, Nevada follows a modified comparative fault rule – meaning a pedestrian injury claim may succeed even if the pedestrian shared some responsibility for the crash, provided they were less than 51% at fault. The investigation’s outcome on fault does not automatically determine your legal options.
- Do not speak to any insurance company without an attorney. Insurers – including the other driver’s carrier – may contact the family quickly. Early statements can be used to limit or deny a claim. Let an attorney handle all insurance communication from this point forward.
- The filing deadline is two years from the date of the crash. Under Nevada personal injury law (NRS 11.190), the deadline to file a claim is May 19, 2028. That may feel distant, but evidence from crash scenes – surveillance footage, witness recollections, vehicle data – degrades and disappears far sooner. Acting early preserves what investigators may not.
- More than one party may bear responsibility. Depending on what the investigation determines – road conditions, visibility, signal timing, or other factors – liability may extend beyond the driver of the GMC alone.
- A civil claim runs on its own timeline. The LVMPD investigation and any potential charges operate separately from a personal injury claim. Families do not need to wait for the investigation to conclude before consulting an attorney.
