Las Vegas, NV - Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash Near the Intersection of Russell Road

Las Vegas, NV (Jan 01, 2026) – A 43-year-old woman from Olathe, Kansas, died early New Year’s Day after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on South Las Vegas Boulevard.

The collision occurred around 1:03 a.m. near the intersection of Russell Road.

Investigators found the woman was walking north in the far-left travel lane when a 2019 Cadillac XT5 struck her. The driver fled the scene without stopping or providing identifying information.

Medical personnel transported the woman to University Medical Center (UMC), where she later died from her injuries.

This marks the first traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2026.

Authorities later located the driver, identified as 77-year-old Edward Dias of Pomona, California. Dias was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving death.

Police stated that he did not show signs of impairment.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in Las Vegas, NV

Fleeing the scene of an accident is a serious crime in Nevada. Nevada state law requires all drivers involved in a crash to stop, offer help, and exchange details. When a driver leaves the scene of a fatal accident, they can face felony charges and severe civil liability.

In hit-and-run cases, the victim’s family may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. This can help cover medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of financial support. Even if the pedestrian was in a travel lane, a driver may still be held responsible for failing to avoid the collision or failing to remain at the scene.

Nevada’s modified comparative negligence laws allow families to seek compensation as long as the victim was not more than 50% at fault.
