Las Vegas, NV - 71-Year-Old Woman Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Desert Inn Road

Las Vegas, NV (August 3, 2026) – A 71-year-old woman died after a three-vehicle crash on West Desert Inn Road, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed. The crash happened around 1:42 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Desert Inn Road, near Decatur Boulevard.

According to LVMPD, a black Nissan Versa was heading eastbound on Desert Inn Road and turned left into a parking lot. During the turn, the Nissan crossed into the path of a white Hyundai Tucson SUV and was struck. The Hyundai then hit a red Toyota Tundra, which was stopped in the parking lot waiting to turn right onto Desert Inn Road.

The Nissan’s driver, a 76-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. His passenger, a 71-year-old woman, died from her injuries. The Hyundai’s driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

LVMPD has not released the identities of those involved. Drivers should expect road closures near Warnock Road, Desert Inn Road, and Frontier Avenue while the investigation continues. LVMPD reports this crash as the 70th traffic-related death this year.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Losing a family member in a crash that took only seconds to happen is a loss no one is ready for, and the questions about what happens next deserve real answers, not guesswork.

Fatal Car Accidents in Las Vegas, NV

A fatal multi-vehicle crash almost always involves more than one insurance company, and each one moves quickly to protect its own driver.

  • Establish liability: LVMPD’s crash report and traffic investigators determine which driver had the right of way before any insurance company can settle a claim.
  • Preserve evidence: parking lot surveillance video, dashcam footage, and vehicle data recorders capture details that disappear once vehicles are repaired or the scene reopens to traffic.
  • Pursue damages: a wrongful death claim can seek funeral costs, lost financial support, and loss of companionship for surviving family members.
  • Address comparative fault: Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence rule, so a driver found more than 50% at fault cannot recover damages, but that finding comes from a full investigation, not the initial crash report (NRS 41.141).

Wrongful death claims in Nevada must be filed within two years of the date of death, which places the deadline at August 3, 2028 (NRS 41.085).
