Las Vegas, NV (August 23, 2026) – A 68-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday, Aug. 23, after a U-Haul box truck struck her while she crossed East Twain Avenue at Royal Crest Street, near Paradise Road. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded around 11:13 a.m. and took her to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Police have not released her name.
Metro’s investigation, based on evidence at the scene, witness statements, and surveillance video, found that the woman was crossing north across Twain outside the marked crosswalk but within an implied crosswalk, in the farthest right travel lane of westbound traffic.
A 2014 GMC Savana U-Haul box truck traveling westbound on Twain failed to avoid her, and the front of the truck struck her, throwing her onto the roadway before the truck came to a stop. The driver, a 73-year-old woman, remained at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with investigators.
LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section continues to investigate, and all lanes of Twain Avenue at Palos Verdes Street were closed during the investigation.
What Nevada’s Crosswalk Law Means for This Case
