South Las Vegas, NV (Dec 05, 2025) – A 52-year-old man died after being struck by an SUV in a south Las Vegas valley crash Friday morning, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
The incident occurred around 5:27 a.m. near Tropicana Avenue and Wynn Road, close to the I-15 corridor. Investigators said the pedestrian was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when an SUV traveling eastbound struck him.
Emergency crews transported the man to UMC Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he later died from his injuries, police confirmed.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene, cooperated with law enforcement, and showed no signs of impairment or speeding.
This crash marks the 149th traffic-related fatality within the LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2025.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
When a fatality occurs outside of a crosswalk, the victim’s family faces a severe legal hurdle known as Modified Comparative Negligence. While the family has the right to file a Wrongful Death Claim within the two-year statute of limitations, the insurance company will immediately seize on the “outside of a crosswalk” detail to shift blame.
Under Nevada law (NRS 41.141), if the deceased pedestrian is found to be 51% or more at fault, the family receives zero compensation. The core of the legal battle in this case is proving the driver bore at least 50% of the fault – a percentage that directly impacts recovery for medical bills, funeral costs, and lost income.
An attorney must immediately investigate the driver’s duty of care (e.g., distraction, visibility, or failure to exercise caution) to fight the insurance company’s inevitable attempt to assign 51% fault to the victim.
