Las Vegas, NV - 17-Year-Old Girl Killed, 19-Year-Old Critically Injured After Speeding BMW Strikes Pedestrians on Sidewalk

North Las Vegas, NV (May 2, 2026) – A 17-year-old girl was killed, and a 19-year-old woman was critically injured after a speeding vehicle lost control and struck two pedestrians on a sidewalk in North Las Vegas Saturday afternoon, according to the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene near the intersection of West Craig Road and Simmons Street at approximately 3:41 p.m. Arriving officers found a multi-vehicle and pedestrian collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2020 BMW X3 was traveling northbound on Simmons Street at a high rate of speed, weaving through traffic and passing vehicles as it approached Craig Road. At the intersection, the BMW struck a 2021 Kia Optima that was executing a left turn. Following the collision, the BMW continued northbound, lost control, and left the roadway, striking a utility pole, landscaping, and a cinder block wall before hitting two pedestrians on the sidewalk.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. The Kia Optima driver was uninjured, and a juvenile passenger inside the BMW was also unharmed.

The BMW’s driver, a 32-year-old male, showed signs of possible impairment at the scene. A blood draw was conducted as part of the investigation. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including reckless driving resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm, child endangerment, and driving without a valid license.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Nevada Law: Rights of Victims in Reckless Driving Accidents

When a reckless or impaired driver kills or injures someone, Nevada law gives victims and their families the right to pursue civil compensation – completely separate from any criminal charges filed.

  • Criminal charges do not compensate victims: A driver’s arrest does not pay your bills, a separate civil claim is required to recover damages
  • Wrongful death claim for the family: Surviving family members may recover funeral costs, lost financial support, and loss of companionship
  • Personal injury claim for the survivor: Medical expenses, long-term care, lost wages, and pain and suffering are all recoverable
  • Recklessness and impairment work in your favor: Evidence of speeding, weaving, and possible impairment supports negligence and may justify punitive damages under Nevada law
  • Act within two years: Nevada’s statute of limitations gives you two years from the date of the accident to file – do not wait.
