Around 8 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Nellis Boulevard near Lake Mead Boulevard following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Upon arrival, first responders found one person critically injured. Despite emergency efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved fled the scene, and police have not yet released a vehicle description or suspect information. Authorities have closed Nellis Boulevard at Monroe Avenue as they conduct an on-scene investigation and review nearby surveillance footage.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Las Vegas
Hit-and-run accidents in Las Vegas often leave victims and their families with devastating injuries and unanswered questions. When a driver flees the scene, it not only violates Nevada law but also complicates the process of pursuing justice and compensation.
Under Nevada law (NRS 484E.010), drivers are legally required to stop at the scene of any crash resulting in injury or death. Fleeing can lead to felony charges. Families of hit-and-run victims may still recover damages through uninsured motorist coverage or by filing a wrongful death claim against the responsible party once identified.
Victims and their families may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and emotional suffering. The statute of limitations for filing a personal injury or wrongful death claim in Nevada is two years from the date of the crash.
