Las Vegas, NV (April 22, 2026) – A 91-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a northwest Las Vegas residential area on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The crash occurred just after 3:00 p.m. near Narrow Canyon Street, north of Fox Forest Street, in the vicinity of Fort Apache and Alexander roads.
Police say the woman and the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox had exited a home together, and the driver entered the vehicle on the driveway.
The woman stood behind the Chevrolet near the edge of the driveway, waiting for a passing car before crossing the roadway to enter another residence.
The driver, unaware that the woman was behind the vehicle, began to reverse. The rear of the Chevrolet struck the woman and knocked her to the ground. The vehicle came to a stop with the woman underneath it.
Medical personnel responded and transported her to UMC Trauma Center, where she remains in life-threatening condition.
The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Legal Rights for Victims of Backover Accidents in Nevada
A backover accident can happen in seconds, and the injuries are often severe. If you or a loved one was struck by a reversing vehicle in Nevada, the law may entitle you to significant compensation.
- Driver negligence applies on private property: Nevada law does not limit liability to public roads, drivers have a duty of care on driveways and parking lots too
- Reversing drivers carry responsibility: Any driver backing a vehicle is legally required to ensure the path is clear before moving, failure to do so can constitute negligence
- Statute of limitations: Nevada gives you two years from the date of the accident to file a personal injury claim, missing this deadline permanently forfeits your right to compensation
- What you may recover: Emergency medical bills, hospitalization costs, ongoing treatment, lost income, pain and suffering, and in fatal cases, wrongful death damages
