Las Vegas, NV - Man Dies in Early Morning DUI Crash on East Tropicana Avenue

Las Vegas, NV (June 13, 2026) – A man died at E. Tropicana Avenue and Tamarus Street on the morning of June 13, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. An impaired driver ran a red signal and struck his vehicle.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:03 a.m. According to police, a 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on E. Tropicana Avenue approaching the Tamarus Street intersection. Evidence gathered at the scene, witness statements, and video surveillance showed the Charger entered the intersection without stopping at a red traffic signal.

A 2003 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Tamarus Street at the same time. The driver was making a left turn onto E. Tropicana Avenue under a green signal. The front right of the Charger struck the front left of the Camry. Both vehicles were redirected and came to rest in the roadway.

The Charger driver left the scene on foot after the collision, police said. He did not check on injuries, give information, or call for help before leaving. Medical personnel transported the Camry’s driver to Sunrise Trauma. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at that facility.

Officers later located the Charger driver, who showed signs of impairment, and arrested him. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. The charges include DUI resulting in death, duty to stop resulting in death, and reckless driving resulting in death.

The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.

Losing someone this way leaves a family with grief, an open investigation, and questions no one prepares you for. Under Nevada law, a civil wrongful death claim is a separate path. It does not depend on how the criminal case resolves or when it concludes.

Fatal Drunk Driving Crashes in Las Vegas, Nevada

When a driver is charged with DUI resulting in death, Nevada law gives the victim’s family a parallel option in civil court. That process runs on its own schedule, independent of the criminal prosecution already underway.

Can the family file a civil claim before the criminal case ends?

Yes. A wrongful death lawsuit does not wait for a criminal verdict. The civil process can begin at any point, including while the prosecution is active. Civil liability applies a different standard of proof than criminal guilt, and the two cases proceed independently of each other.

What can a wrongful death claim cover?

Under NRS 41.085, surviving family members may recover medical expenses incurred before death, funeral and burial costs, and the financial support the deceased provided. Non-economic damages for the loss of companionship and care are also available.

What does the ongoing investigation mean for the family?

An open investigation does not prevent the family from retaining an attorney or preserving their civil options. Evidence collected during the criminal process, including toxicology results, the vehicle data recorder from the Charger, and intersection surveillance footage, may support the civil claim. That evidence has a limited window before it is released or overwritten when the criminal hold on it expires.

What is the deadline to file?

Nevada law requires wrongful death claims to be filed within two years of the date of death (NRS 41.085). This crash occurred on June, 2026. The filing deadline is June, 2028.
