Las Vegas, NV (Sept 5, 2026) – A 34-year-old man and the 3-year-old boy he was carrying suffered critical injuries after being struck while crossing East Craig Road in the northwest Las Vegas valley Saturday evening. Metro police responded just before 8 p.m. to the crash near East Craig Road and Puebla Street, east of Nellis Boulevard.
Police say three pedestrians were crossing Craig Road outside of a marked crossing when the man, carrying the boy, left the concrete median and entered the path of a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport traveling westbound. The Mitsubishi struck the man and threw both him and the child onto the roadway. A third pedestrian in the group avoided the crash.
The driver parked nearby and returned to the scene on foot. Both the man and the boy were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police closed the road while investigating.
Pedestrian Accidents Involving Children in Las Vegas, NV
A 3-year-old cannot be found legally at fault for a crash under Nevada law, no matter what a jury decides about the adult who was carrying him. Nevada treats children under 7 as incapable of negligence, so even if the man’s own claim is reduced for leaving the median outside a marked crossing, the boy’s separate claim is not automatically reduced along with it.
That distinction matters here specifically: police say the group was crossing outside a marked crossing, and that the man left the median and entered the Mitsubishi’s path, facts that could genuinely affect his own comparative negligence percentage under NRS 41.141. None of that changes what the child’s own claim looks like. The two are not the same case just because they came from the same crash.
