South Las Vegas, NV (Sept. 14, 2026) – A driver refused to stop during an attempted traffic stop and crashed into another vehicle near Eastern and Wigwam Avenues in southeast Las Vegas Sunday afternoon. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the pursuit began at 3:48 p.m.
Two people got out of the car and ran from the scene. Officers apprehended one; the other remained at large as of 4:45 p.m., and police set up a perimeter while asking the public to avoid the area given the heavy police presence.
This report does not state whether the driver of the other vehicle was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
Fleeing Driver Accidents in Las Vegas, NV
A driver who refuses to stop for police and crashes into another vehicle has violated NRS 484B.600, Nevada’s law against failing to stop for a police officer, and that violation supports a negligence claim independent of any criminal charges the driver faces.
A claim against the pursuing police department itself faces significant immunity barriers under Nevada law and typically requires proof that officers acted recklessly in deciding to continue the pursuit, not just that a pursuit was underway. The far more direct path for an injured third party is a claim against the fleeing driver, whose own insurance, if any, would typically respond first.
