Las Vegas, NV - 15 Years Old Pedestrian Critical After Bonanza Road Pickup Crash

Las Vegas, NV (Oct. 1, 2026) – A 15-year-old girl suffered critical injuries after a pickup struck her Thursday morning. The collision happened around 8:27 a.m. on East Bonanza Road, east of North Triest Court.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the girl was crossing northbound. She was outside a nearby marked crosswalk when she left the concrete median. Police said she entered the path of a westbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

The truck’s front struck the teenager, throwing her westward onto the roadway. Emergency medical personnel transported her to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center. She remained hospitalized with critical injuries when police issued the October 1 release.

The driver, a 56-year-old North Las Vegas man, stopped just west of the collision. He remained at the scene, suffered no injuries, and showed no signs of impairment.

Investigators reviewed physical evidence, surveillance footage, and a witness statement. LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section continues investigating the circumstances.

Our thoughts are with the injured girl and her family.

Legal Rights After a Pedestrian Accident in Las Vegas

Crossing outside a crosswalk does not automatically eliminate a pedestrian injury claim. Under NRS 484B.287, pedestrians generally must yield outside marked crosswalks and unmarked intersection crosswalks. However, NRS 484B.280 still requires drivers to exercise care to avoid pedestrian collisions. Both responsibilities matter when evaluating a Las Vegas pedestrian accident.

Nevada’s comparative negligence law also allows recovery in certain cases involving shared fault. Under NRS 41.141, an injured person’s negligence cannot exceed the defendants’ combined negligence. In a two-party case, that generally means 50% responsibility or less. Recoverable damages decrease according to the injured person’s assigned percentage of fault. Being more than 50% responsible generally prevents recovery against the other negligent party.

For this Bonanza Road collision, an assessment should examine more than the crossing location. The available footage should be evaluated for visibility, vehicle movement, and reaction time. Reviewing those details could help determine whether the collision was reasonably avoidable. These are questions for investigation, not conclusions about either person’s conduct.

A child’s pedestrian accident settlement also requires safeguards beyond an agreement with an insurer. Under NRS 41.200, settlements of an unemancipated minor’s disputed claim require district court approval. For injury claims, the court receives medical records documenting treatment and recovery prospects. Those records must also address existing medical expenses and estimated future medical costs. Families should consider those future needs before agreeing to a settlement amount.

Filing deadlines can differ from those applicable to injured adults. NRS 11.250 generally excludes time under age 18 from a child’s limitation period. The applicable rules still require review for the particular claim. Ask an attorney to confirm the deadlines rather than assuming every claim can wait.
