Las Vegas, NV (August 25, 2026) – A 61-year-old man died after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, according to Las Vegas police.
The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. near Vermont Avenue and Harvard Street, west of Decatur Boulevard and north of Interstate 11. It involved a 2000 GMC Yukon and a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban.
Police said the Yukon was headed west on Vermont Avenue. The Suburban was stopped at a stop sign on Harvard Street, facing south.
A preliminary investigation found the Yukon was completing a left U-turn. For reasons that have not been determined, the Yukon continued turning a full 360 degrees and struck the Suburban. The impact pushed the Suburban into a light pole on the northwest corner.
The driver of the Yukon, the 61-year-old man, was taken to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center. He was pronounced dead there.
The driver of the Suburban stayed at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with the investigation. That driver later drove to a hospital for minor injuries. A juvenile passenger in the Suburban was not injured.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is waiting on the Clark County Coroner’s determination of cause and manner of death. Police said impairment is not suspected at this time.
The intersection was shut down in all directions while officers investigated.
Car Accidents in Las Vegas, NV
Nevada holds a negligent driver’s estate and insurance policy responsible for a crash even after the driver’s death, under NRS 41.130. The Suburban driver’s claim for medical bills, the totaled SUV, and other losses does not go away because the Yukon driver died – his insurance still covers it, the same as if he had survived. The pending coroner’s report does not change that.
Five steps protect a claim in the first hours after a crash:
- Call 911 for police and medical care, even when injuries seem minor
- Photograph vehicle positions, damage, and the intersection before anything moves
- Exchange names, insurance, and contact details with every driver involved
- Get the police report number before leaving the scene
- Avoid discussing fault with anyone except an attorney
An attorney can pull the full report and start an independent investigation once these basics are covered.
