Las Vegas, NV - Motorcyclist Killed in Motorcycle vs. SUV Crash at Fort Apache and Arby

Las Vegas, NV (Sept. 27, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon near South Fort Apache Road and West Arby Avenue in the southwest Las Vegas valley when a Jeep making a left turn crossed into his path, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Metro officers responded to the crash at approximately 2:33 p.m. Police say a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on Fort Apache Road while a 2025 Indian Scout motorcycle approached from the opposite direction, heading north.

The Jeep attempted an eastbound left turn onto Arby Avenue and entered the motorcycle’s path, police said. The front of the Jeep struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider onto the roadway north of the intersection.

Emergency medical personnel transported the motorcyclist to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, he died from his injuries, according to police.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene, reported no injuries, and showed no signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Las Vegas, NV

A driver turning left across oncoming traffic carries a legal duty to yield the right of way to approaching vehicles, including motorcycles. When a left-turning driver enters a motorcyclist’s path and causes a fatal crash, that driver is generally presumed at fault under Nevada traffic law.

  • Establish liability: review the Jeep driver’s timing, sightlines, and whether the motorcycle was visible before the turn began
  • Preserve evidence: secure intersection camera footage, the police crash reconstruction report, and any recoverable data from both vehicles
  • Pursue a wrongful death claim: Nevada law allows surviving family members to recover for funeral expenses, lost financial support, and loss of companionship
  • Address comparative fault: any claim that the motorcyclist contributed to the crash is weighed against Nevada’s modified comparative negligence rule (NRS 41.141), which bars recovery only if he is found 51% or more at fault

Under Nevada law, the motorcyclist’s family has two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim (NRS 41.085), which sets the filing deadline at September 27, 2028.
