Las Vegas, NV (Sept. 27, 2026) – A pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in the East Valley early Sunday morning, according to Las Vegas Police.
The crash happened around 4:28 a.m. at Nellis Avenue and Patterson Avenue, near the Nellis and Sahara area. Police say the pedestrian was crossing Nellis Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when a 2003 BMW traveling on Nellis struck the pedestrian as they entered its path. The pedestrian was projected onto the roadway.
The driver of the BMW stopped at the scene and called police. Officers say the driver showed no signs of impairment.
The pedestrian was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where medical personnel determined the injuries were life-threatening. Northbound and southbound lanes on Nellis Avenue remain shut down as police investigate; Sahara Avenue is open in both directions.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Pedestrian Accidents in Las Vegas, NV
A pedestrian struck outside a marked crosswalk does not automatically lose the right to compensation. Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence standard (NRS 41.141), meaning an injured pedestrian may still recover damages provided they were less than 51% at fault for the crash.
- Determine liability: examine the driver’s speed, visibility, and reaction time approaching the intersection
- Preserve evidence: secure traffic camera footage, 911 call records, and the responding officer’s crash report before they are lost or overwritten
- Establish fault percentage: weigh the driver’s duty to watch for pedestrians against the pedestrian’s crossing location
- Document damages: record medical treatment, lost income, and ongoing care needs tied to a traumatic injury
Under Nevada law, an injured pedestrian has two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (NRS 11.190), which sets the filing deadline at September 27, 2028.
