Las Vegas, NV - 44-Year-Old Man Killed in Hit-and-Run on Nellis Boulevard

Las Vegas, NV (Sept 14, 2026) – A 44-year-old man crossing Nellis Boulevard was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says.

The collision occurred on September 14, 2026, at approximately 8:47 p.m., according to police.

Evidence at the scene and surveillance video indicated the man was crossing Nellis Boulevard westbound outside of a marked or implied crosswalk, police said. A Genesis GV60 traveling southbound on Nellis Boulevard struck the pedestrian with its right front, according to police.

The pedestrian was projected southbound onto the west sidewalk of Nellis Boulevard, police said. The driver of the Genesis failed to remain at the scene and fled southbound on Nellis Boulevard, according to police.

The pedestrian sustained mortal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. His identity is pending notification of next of kin. Information on the driver remains unknown.

Police are looking for a 2022-2025 Genesis GV60. The vehicle will have damage to its right front and right side, according to police.

Nellis Boulevard was shut down between Stewart and Charleston avenues following the collision.

The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.

A family is being notified tonight that someone did not come home, and that the person responsible drove away. Nevada law does not leave them without a path forward.

Fatal Hit-and-Run in Las Vegas, Nevada

A driver who leaves the scene takes the most important piece of evidence with them. That does not mean the family has no claim.

Even when the at-fault driver has not been identified, a claim may be available under the victim’s own uninsured motorist coverage. That coverage sits on many Nevada auto policies, and it can apply to a family member struck while walking.

  • What investigators examine: surveillance and business camera footage along Nellis Boulevard, the vehicle’s right front and right side damage, body shop and parts orders, and license plate reader data
  • What families should preserve now: the police report number, any video from nearby homes and businesses, and every auto insurance policy in the household
  • Who may share responsibility once the driver is found: the driver, the vehicle’s registered owner, or an employer if the vehicle was being used for work
  • What a wrongful death claim can cover: funeral and burial costs, the income the family has lost, and the loss of a husband, father, son, or brother

Police said the man was crossing outside a marked or implied crosswalk. A pedestrian crossing outside a marked crosswalk does not automatically determine fault. Nevada follows a modified comparative fault standard (NRS 41.141), meaning the family may still recover compensation provided their loved one was less than 51% at fault.

Flight from the scene also carries weight. A driver’s decision to leave is something a jury is allowed to consider.

Wrongful death claims in Nevada must be filed within two years of the date of death (NRS 41.085). For a death on September 14, 2026, that deadline falls on September 14, 2028. An uninsured motorist claim often carries its own, shorter notice requirement written into the policy, so a wrongful death lawyer in Las Vegas should review the policy language early.
