Las Vegas, NV (September 2, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck along Boulder Highway Wednesday afternoon. The crash happened around 4 p.m. in the 6600 block of Boulder Highway near Russell Road.
Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and surveillance video showed the boy was crossing Boulder Highway in a marked crosswalk north of South Broadbent Boulevard. At the same time, a 2022 Ram 1500 driven by a 57-year-old woman was traveling north on Boulder Highway. The front of the truck struck the teenager and projected him onto the roadway.
Medical personnel took him to a nearby hospital, where staff determined his injuries were critical. The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Northbound Boulder Highway was closed after Gibson Road and reopened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Pedestrian Accidents Involving Minors in Las Vegas, NV
Nevada law pauses the personal injury statute of limitations for a minor until he turns 18, but that does not mean a family has to wait years to act, since a parent or guardian can file on a child’s behalf right away, under NRS 11.190. The marked crosswalk here matters too: Nevada law requires a driver to yield to a pedestrian already inside a marked crosswalk, and evidence from the scene already places the teenager there.
Any eventual settlement for a minor is not simply handed to the parents. Under NRS 41.200, a settlement on behalf of a child requires a district court judge’s approval, and the money goes into a blocked account the family cannot access except for the child’s direct benefit, such as medical care, until he turns 18. That protection exists for the teenager, not against the family, and it is worth understanding well before any insurance offer arrives.
