Las Vegas, NV – Minibike Rider Critically Injured in Crash With Pickup Truck

Minibike Rider in Critical Condition After Collision With Ram 1500 at Wisteria and Shawnee Avenues

Las Vegas, NV (June 3, 2026) – A minibike rider is in critical condition after his bike collided with a pickup truck Wednesday night, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The crash happened at approximately 10:33 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Wisteria Avenue and Shawnee Avenue, police say.

Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and video surveillance indicate a non-street-legal minibike was traveling southbound on Wisteria Avenue toward Shawnee Avenue, according to police. At the same time, a 2019 Ram 1500 was traveling northbound on Wisteria Avenue, approaching the same intersection.

Police say the collision occurred when the Ram made a left turn as the minibike reached the intersection. The front of the Ram struck the minibike and redirected it to the north. The Ram then left the roadway and came to a controlled stop in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Emergency medical personnel transported the minibike rider to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center, where he remains in life-threatening condition, police say. His identity has not been released.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

When a left-turning vehicle crosses into the path of a smaller bike, the rider absorbs nearly all of the impact. For the family waiting at the hospital tonight, the days ahead bring urgent questions about how this happened and who is responsible.

Left-Turn Crashes Involving Two-Wheeled Riders in Las Vegas, Nevada

In a crash like this, fault often turns on who had the right of way. A driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic, and a vehicle that turns across a rider’s path can be held responsible for the collision.

When a rider survives but faces life-threatening injuries, the early evidence matters more than any account given days later. Here is what attorneys and crash investigators typically examine:

  • Surveillance and traffic-camera footage of the intersection
  • The point of impact and the final resting positions of both vehicles
  • Whether the turning driver yielded the right of way before crossing
  • The speed, lane position, and path of travel of both the minibike and the truck

Police noted the minibike was not street-legal. That fact alone does not bar a claim. Nevada follows a modified comparative negligence rule (NRS 41.141), an injured rider can still recover compensation as long as he was less than 51% at fault, though any recovery may be reduced by his share of responsibility.

Under Nevada law, an injured person generally has two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (NRS 11.190). For a crash in June 2026, that deadline falls in June 2028.
