Winning Isn't Everything. It's The Only Thing.

Hundreds of traffic accidents occur in Nevada every year. Most people who have been in a car accident have experienced some of these feelings:

  • Shock
  • Nervousness or worry
  • Fear or uneasiness

Sometimes these feelings can be so strong that they keep you from living a normal life. Sometimes those feelings don't go away or they become stronger. They can change the way you think and act. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from a motor vehicle accident can have a persistent disabling effect.

To meet criteria for PTSD, a person must have experienced, witnessed, or been confronted by an event that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, to which he responded with intense fear, helplessness, or horror.

Motor vehicle accident survivors with PTSD often have intrusive memories and nightmares. They might avoid talking about the accident and resist or abstain from driving or traveling by car. They often fear and avoid people, places, activities, and reminders of the accident that can trigger upsetting reactions, such as anxiety, tachycardia, and panic. They may be irritable, detached, or estranged from loved ones, or have difficulty sleeping or concentrating. These symptoms must persist for more the 30 days and cause clinically significant distress and impaired functioning for a person to meet the criteria for chronic PTSD.

Accident severity, fatalities and severe injuries contribute to the potential for development of PTSD.

Another variable associated with symptom persistence is litigation. This predictor is problematic because those pursuing legal action may be more severely injured or may be inclined to portray themselves as symptomatic.

If you have any symptoms of PTSD following an automobile accident, you should consult your physician and any recommended specialist and get whatever treatment you need, just as you would with any other kind of car accident injury.

Consult an attorney today, we can help you get through this traumatic event and fight for the compensation you deserve!
