When Does Insurance Kick in After a Car Accident?

Las Vegas Car Accident Lawyer – Insurance Coverage

Everyone knows that when an accident happens that insurance kicks in. The question is if the party is at fault, when does your own insurance kick in? Your insurance may be used at two stages of a car accident case.

(1) At the beginning stage, you may need to use it to fix your car. Even when the other party is at fault, their insurance company gets a reasonable amount of time to investigate the matter. This means that you may need to use your insurance to get your car fixed quickly. But, rest assured, eventually your insurance will be paid by the at fault party’s insurance and the deductible you pay should be reimbursed as well.

(2) You also may need to use your insurance at the end. What we call Under Insured Motorist coverage. Sometimes you may run into a situation where there isn’t enough money to cover all your damages. Most people have Under Insured Motorist coverage on their own car insurance, which means that your car insurance has to step in and make sure you are properly covered if the other side does not have enough money to cover you.

Fighting Insurance Companies in Car Accident Cases
Some people have tried to handle the matter themselves. Usually they believe that it should be relatively straight forward and they should get all their expenses taken care of by the at fault party’s insurance. Unfortunately, it does not always work that way. Insurance companies have whole divisions dedicated to “adjusting” your claim so they do not have to compensate you for your injuries or bills. This is why we ALWAYS recommend hiring a good injury lawyer to help you right from the beginning.
